Restaurants & Nightlife
There are many restaurants in Arles, which feature a Provençal and very exquisite type of cuisine. Although, because of its relatively small population, Arles doesn’t offer as many nightlife options as Aix-en-Provence, Avignon, Nice, or Marseille.
Restaurants
-
Brasserie Nord-Pinus
Info: The decor of the restaurant is vaguely baroque, filled with paneling and mirrors. The cuisine is one of the lightest and most sophisticated in town. The menus change frequently but are generally a delight. The food is colorful, spicy, and artfully arranged on platters. Terraces surround the complex on all sides.
Location: Place du Forum
-
La Charcuterie
Info: La Charcuterie opened in 1942 when the Nazis occupied most of France. The little deli thrived in a small space and now has been turned into one of the most beloved bistros in Arles. Adding such flourishes as red velvet banquettes, the owners have created what they call a bistro just for friends.
Location: 51 Rue des Arenes
-
La Gueule du Loup
Info: Named for its founder, who, according to local legend, grew to resemble a wolf as he aged, this cozy, well-managed restaurant occupies a stone-fronted antique house in the historic core of Arles. Today, the new owners prepare serious gourmet-style French food that’s more elaborate than the cuisine at many competitors.
Location: 39 Rue des Arenes
-
Lou Marques
Info: Lou Marques has the best reputation in town. Seating is in the formal dining room or on the terrace. The cuisine features creative twists on Provençal specialties. A first course could be crustaceans and salad with citrus-and-basil vinaigrette or lobster risotto with truffles.
Location: 9 Boulevard des Lices
Nightlife
-
Le Cargo de Nuit
Info: This is the town’s most appealing choice. Open Wednesday to Saturday night, it’s a club that later has live music (salsa, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll) and then disco dancing until 3 am. Cover ranges from 8 to 23 Euro.
Location: 7 Avenue Sadi-Carnot
-
Le Café van Gogh
Info: The town’s most animated cafe, where most singles go. Overlooking an attractive plaza, it features live music and an ambiance that the almost-young and the restless refer to as super-chouette, or super cool.
